Lee Min-ho “At 20, I was in a car accident where the perpetrator d*ed; I felt ashamed for not being able to fully celebrate Jung Il-woo”
On December 25th, Lee Min-ho appeared on tvN’s entertainment program “You Quiz on the Block” episode 274 as a guest.
The actor mentioned the car accident he experienced in the past. He shared, “The accident made headlines at that time. It was a fatal incident, and all the passengers in the other car that caused the accident died. I was hospitalized for a year”.
Yoo Jae-suk commented, “I heard the accident occurred when you and Jung Il-woo were traveling together. The other car’s driver was drunk and crossed the center line, causing the accident”, adding “Jung Il-woo did talk about it.”
Lee Min-ho confessed, “Il-woo was seriously injured. We just turned 20 back then, the age when you have so many dreams and things you want to achieve. But we had to stop everything unexpectedly. I went through all kinds of emotions, including denial, anger, sadness, and then acceptance. It was like a rollercoaster of emotions”.
While Lee Min-ho was still receiving treatment in the hospital, Jung Il-woo was already discharged and gained popularity with “High Kick”. When asked if he felt mixed emotions seeing his friend doing well while he was in the hospital, Lee Min-ho said, “I, myself, also hated that feeling. I wanted to be supportive of him, but couldn’t do it wholeheartedly, and was a little impatient”, adding “I also wanted to be recognized and make my name known quickly. I even questioned whether I could congratulate my friend 100%”.
Meanwhile, Lee Min-ho broke his thighs and ankle bones in a car accident while going on a trip with his best friend, actor Jung Il-woo, and underwent major surgery in 2006. At that time, Jung Il-woo was hospitalized for 4.5 months while Lee Min-ho stayed in the hospital for a year.
